Nature of the Loan
The loan is only for paying the assessed matriculation fees (i.e., tuition, miscellaneous and laboratory fees, and instructional materials fee).
The maximum amount of loan can be 80% of the total matriculation fees.
The loan is interest free, provided that the loan payment is made on or before the end of the term in which the loan was granted made as reflected in the academic calendar
In case of failure to pay the loan within the due date, the principal loan balance shall incur a compounded interest of 0.5% per month or 6% per annum.
Qualifications for Applying for the Loan:
An applicant must:
- Be a bona fide Filipino citizen;
- Be a student in a degree program;
- Not a recipient of any scholarship grant that cover matriculation fees; and
- Be willing to abide by the terms and conditions of the SLP and the decision of the Student Loan Board (SLB), which is final and executory.
Terms and conditions:
- Approved loan amount shall be an automatic partial payment of matriculation. There will be no cash out. The balance of the total assessed fees for the term shall be paid by the student on or before the last day of enrolment to be considered officially enrolled.
- A loan shall not incur any interest if payment is completed and received by UPOU on or before the end of term the loan was made. Interest shall be waived on loans which are paid within four (4) months.
- If a student is unable to settle loan accounts by the final due date, the student shall be notified, together with the parents and/or guardians, of their past due obligations by the Office of Student Affairs.
- If the student fails to settle the account, the principal loan shall incur an interest of 6% per annum or 0.5% per month on a compounded basis of the balance.
- If a student has an outstanding obligation, the provisions of revised UC Article 431 shall apply.
Procedure in Applying for Loan

Students who will apply for a new loan but has an outstanding loan/s with the SLP need to accomplished the appeal form together with the SLP application form:
Appeal Forms:
- UPOU SLP Form No. 2A or
- UPOU SLP Form No. 2B
2. Submit the complete SLP application documents or email scanned copy to [email protected] on the 1st day until the 5th day of the registration period.
3. Await the decision of the Student Loan Board, which shall meet three working days after the last day of the loan application.
4. Notice of application results will be emailed to the students after the SLB meeting.

Procedure in Paying the Loan
1. The payment is in installment or in full and should be made on or before the end of classes of the term the loan is made as reflected in the academic calendar.
